The LTA Lambda & Call

Each Greek organizations have hand signs to represent their membership and pride in their corresponding organization. Lambda Theta Alpha uses a hand sign that is in the shape of a Lambda.

Sisters also have a tradition of using unique "call" that they proudly use to represent Lambda Theta Alpha. Press play to hear it.

Strolling & Saluting

Strolling is a tradition that traces back to the inception of historically African American Greek organizations and is practiced by many Greek organizations to this day.

LTA strolling is done by having Sisters line up one after another. They begin to move forward in a line performing dance moves that are traditional to Lambda Theta Alpha. For chapter level strolls, moves are often added or changed to better fit the music chosen. The practice of strolling is a very organized event, as members in a line know every step of the choreographed stroll. Strolling is one of the many fun ways to express LTA unity and pride.

Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc. is an organization that does not step, but does salute.

A salute is a unique tradition shared by only a few organizations. A salute is an organized story-telling of a particular member, chapter, or overall praise to the national organization. A salute can honor the past and current accomplishments of a member or chapter and share the history of how Lambda Theta Alpha came to be. Using creativity, members express themselves proudly and confidently while lined up as one. Salutes vary in length, incorporate synchronized movements, and may often include song lyrics that have special meaning. Salutes symbolize unity and respect for the sisters and the traditions of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.

New Member presentations

A new member presentation is a tradition that we share with historic African American fraternities and sororities as well as multicultural Greeks. A new member presentation is a show that we give to our friends, family, fellow Greeks, and the Wayne State community as we formally introduce our new sisters. These shows display our traditions (saluting, marching, strolling, etc.), share our lovely history, and promote unity within our sisterhood as sisters from all across the state gather together to celebrate the new sisters.
